7 |4 @& U9 ^1 z4 }: M+ h" t+ t
Do optimists live longer? The answer is almost certainly yes. Scientists have found that people who smile and laugh a lot are not only happier, but tend to be healthier and live longer than people with negative thoughts. According to ongoing research in a US hospital, easygoing, cheerful patients with a positive outlook are about 20% more likely to live longer than depressed patients. The researchers have been studying 250 cancer patients for five years. Of course, both optimists and pessimists can get cancer, but it seems that having a good sense of humour and an optimistic attitude helps people respond to stress much better. It may even help to strengthen their bodies and immune systems. And even healthy people who feel happy about getting older live on average seven years longer than people who are unhappy about getting old. So, forget your worries, put a smile on your face, and look forward to a long and happy life!

British chef, Jamie Oliver, is famous for his quick, healthy and interesting style of cooking. He has written many books and had his own TV programme ‘The Naked Chef’. Last year Jamie became interested in school dinners – the midday meal which children can buy at school. Jamie visited some schools in the UK and he was shocked to see children eating a lot of unhealthy food such as chips, sausages, crisps and sweets. The school dinners didn’t have any fresh fruit or vegetables in them. Jamie decided to try to change school dinners. He made a TV programme called ‘School dinners’. Jamie believes that children need to learn good habits while they’re young and that they will learn to eat healthy food if they take an interest in food and cooking. So he taught children about healthy foods, and showed them how to cook great meals. He also showed the ‘dinner ladies’ – the people who cook and serve food in schools – that they can prepare healthy meals in schools for the same money as junk food meals. He even persuaded the Prime Minister to introduce new rules about meals in British schools. This means things will have to change in all British schools – and quickly, too!& i, m- M0 D: n7 p
