三、 问答题
1. What is MICE tourism and what are the major components of MICE tourism? 资料:P218, 第二段,其中四内容需要简述
MICE tourism is made up of Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions.
Meetings are defined as events designed to bring people together for the purpose of exchanging information, which is from either a company or an organization, or a broader spectrum of people.
Incentives include international and domestic travels, which are designed as part of an incentive scheme to increase or reward employee’s effort.
Conventions are defined as assembly of persons for some common object, or for exchange of ideas, views and information of common interest to the group. The term convention is widely used in America, Australia and Asia to describe traditional form of annual or total membership meetings.
Exhibitions are defined as events that bring together supplies of products, equipment and services where they can display their products and services.
The MICE sector consists of activities including conventions, trade shows, seminars, events, exhibitions and incentive travel. It is an important generator of tourism expenditure, investment, foreign exchange earnings and employment.
2. What is so-called “give and take” philosophy?
资料:P245, Para 2, (“give and take” philosophy: that is,…)
People offer others accommodation based on an explanation that the providing of hospitality was merely a result of a “give and take “ philosophy: that is, if you give a stranger food and lodging today, perhaps a stranger will do the same thing for you at another time. However, given the circumstances in which hospitality in ancient Greece was provided, it is understandable that certain elements of religion were intermingled with the idea. Missionaries, priests and pilgrim formed a very large part of the traveling public. Often they were journeying to holy places, perhaps oracles or temples that had a dominant position in their religion. As a result, many of the accommodations for travelers were located in the vicinity of such places.
3. When did MICE tourism begin to develop? Where was the first conference held?
资料:P221,第二段(The first conference…)
The first conference cited was held in 1896 in Detroit, Michigan when a group of businessmen first realized the economic value of hosting meetings. However, the growth of the MICE industry throughout the world did not occur until 1960s. over 184 countries in the world have held MICE events since then.
4. When and Where did the concept of commercial hospitality emerge for the first time?
资料:P246, last Para 最后一段—P247,2-3段简要内容
The rendering of hospitality was considered a charitable donation springing from religious beliefs rather than a business venture. But all this was to change in the year 1282 in Florence, Italy. The great innkeepers of the city incorporated a guild or association for the purpose of turning hospitality into a business. Inns became licensed and were permitted to import and resell wine. The inns themselves belonged not to the innkeepers but to the city and they were operated under three-year leases, which were sold by auction. Nevertheless, they were presumably profitable; in the year 1290, 86 inns in Florence were members of the guild.
The concept was not limited to Florence for long. Shortly thereafter, the business of hospitality spread to Rome and other Italian cities.
During this period of the 16th to 18th century, considerable improvement took place, particularly in England, in the quality of accommodation.
5. Apart from Disneyland and Disney resorts in the United States, where else can you find them? What do Disneyland and Disney resorts the worldwide have in common? What are the possible differences?
资料:P203, 最后一段前四句;P204第二、三段各自前三句。第四段第一句
In more recent times Disney opened a version of the Magic Kingdom in the mid-eighties in Tokyo. The opening of Tokyo Disneyland marks yet another milestone in the history of Disney entertainment. For the first time, Disney outdoor recreation is available to guests outside the United States. Tokyo Disneyland presents its guests with 32 attractions in five themed lands.
The company then turned their attention to Europe. After long negotiation with several sites and lengthy construction, Euro Disney opened its doors on 12th April, 1992. The result is 56 hectares of land that includes six uniquely designed on-site themed hotels, a Disney campground including hundreds of woodland cabins, a night0time entertainment complex “The Disney Village”, a top level golf course, and most significantly of all a new Magic Kingdom theme park.
Now Disney has come to China. Hong Kong Disneyland will be Disney’s third foreign theme park after Paris and Tokyo. Alongside a theme park, the project also features a 1400-room Disney-themed resort hotel complex and a retail, dining and entertainment center at Penny’s Bay on Lantau Island.
All Disney resorts worldwide and the Magic Kingdoms share certain attractions and elements but each is unique experience.
